Stages as Spaces

Week 7 - Identifying the iconic

Introduction to the unit saw us investigate and analyse scenes within movies

When analysing we investigated different types of angles and techniques used within films to draw the audiences attention to a particular image/person/detail.

We later drew over the top of an image of the different types of elements.

After doing so, a front and side view is created based on the perspective of the audience. This is used to demonstrate the different types of items, structures or people within the particular scene.
Using the front and side sections, a 3D model using rhino is created
Week 8 - Exposing meaning

Film - Playtime

Within my scene, the waiting room, it depicts the events prior to a job interview. The quietness of the space heavily intensifies the eagerness of the individual awaiting to be seen by the employer. This is demonstrated through the pacing back and forth within the room and curiosity demonstrated by the man as he interacts with certain objects within the room, such as self portraits of individuals and the quality of the chairs.

The sense of power and authority is used within this room to demonstrate the social hierarchy within this room. For instance, each portrait's gaze is aligned with a chair, further creating a sense of uneasiness. Furthermore, each portrait is raised above eye level forcing the individual to look up as the portrait looks down.

The controlling of the space within the waiting room demonstrates a lack of privacy for the individual making them feel isolated. The large open spaced room can be looked within from the busy outside street, almost like a cage. The distance between the chairs also alludes to the fact of people being separated and isolated from one another.

The colour scheme within the waiting room is very dull and grey with very little to no colour. Much like the man's clothing, the sense of importance can be extracted from this scene. The only colour that can be seen from this scene is a red emblem on each of the portraits left collar symbolising their high power and authority.
